Coronavirus

People with dementia may be finding it very difficult throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. It can cause difficulty when trying to maintain social distancing and the hygiene procedures, such as hand washing.

Someone suffering with this condition may find it hard to understand what Coronavirus is, or when everything will come to an end.

Social Distancing & Dementia:

  • People with the condition may not understand why they need to stay 2 meters away from people or why some people are wearing face masks.
  • They may find it unsettling not being in their usual routine, regularly seeing their family and friends or attending social groups.
We have been encouraging our clients to go out for little walks locally, on routes that are quiet, watching exercise videos, introducing them to activities at home such as colouring, puzzles and dancing rather than going out to the garden centre or coffee shop as they did before lock down was announced.

The Alzheimer’s society has a video explaining about Dementia & Social Distancing.

You may know of someone who is sadly suffering with the condition, I’m sure they would appreciate a call!
